His passing has left an immense void in the hearts of those who knew him, yet his legacy of friendship, passion, and unwavering team spirit will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of sharing part of life’s journey with him.
A proud Fish Hoek native, Caleb joined False Bay Rugby Club shortly after finishing school and immediately embraced everything it meant to be part of the Bay family. Rugby was far more than a sport to him—it was a source of purpose, connection, and community. From representing the Badgers to competing in Colts rugby and supporting fellow players from the sidelines, Caleb immersed himself wholeheartedly in club life.
Those who played alongside him remember a young man whose enthusiasm was impossible to ignore. He brought energy to every training session, commitment to every match, and encouragement to every teammate. Whether victory was being celebrated or challenges were being faced, Caleb remained a positive and uplifting presence whose attitude strengthened those around him.
Beyond the rugby field, Caleb was admired for his character. He possessed a genuine kindness that made people feel welcome and valued. Friends recall his easy smile, infectious laughter, and natural ability to build friendships wherever he went. He had a gift for bringing people together, creating an atmosphere of camaraderie and belonging that reflected the very best qualities of sport and friendship.
Caleb’s loyalty to his teammates and loved ones defined much of who he was. He supported others without hesitation, celebrated their successes, and stood beside them during difficult times. His authenticity and warmth earned him the respect of everyone fortunate enough to know him. While his accomplishments on the field were appreciated, it was the quality of his character that left the deepest impression.
As tributes continue to pour in from across the rugby community, one theme remains constant: Caleb made people feel valued. His presence enriched the lives of those around him, and the memories he created will remain treasured for years to come. Though his passing has brought profound sadness, it has also reminded many of the lasting impact one caring and dedicated individual can have on an entire community.
The thoughts and deepest condolences of the rugby community remain with his mother Henriette, father David, stepfather Philip, brother Joshua, and all family members and friends who are mourning this heartbreaking loss. May they find comfort in the love surrounding them and strength in the countless memories Caleb leaves behind.
Though his time was far too brief, Caleb Mair’s legacy lives on in every friendship he formed, every teammate he encouraged, and every life he touched. He will be deeply missed, lovingly remembered, and forever honored within the False Bay Rugby Club family and beyond.
Rest peacefully, Caleb. Your spirit, passion, and friendship will never be forgotten.
